Remember: always add value, entertain, or ideally both!

You have 3 seconds. If you can’t grab the attention of your audience in the precious first few seconds, they will keep on scrolling.

Be sure to include a catchy title card and remember, use those 3 seconds wisely!

Most users have sound disabled on their videos by default. Make sure you setup your video sequence to not require sound, at least initially. If sound will be required, add graphical instruction to the viewer to “unmute” or add the caption “best with sound.”

If there is dialogue in your video, be absolutely sure to add captions so viewers without sound can follow along.

It’s also important to keep it short. For example, on Facebook and Twitter, 2-3 minutes is ideal. With Instagram Feed videos, you’re limited to lengths of 3-60 seconds. You can upload an Instagram video longer than a minute, but only one minute of it will appear in your feed. The good news is that you get to pick which minute to display in your feed.

Experiment with different angles: fish-eye, bird’s-eye or drone footage, 360 degree views, Go-Pro action shots…try shooting videos with a unique perspective.

Videos on Instagram loop automatically, as do short videos on Facebook and Twitter. Take that into account when you’re creating them — you might even want to try a seamless loop that viewers won’t notice.

While with Instagram you really have no choice, on Facebook and Twitter, you can either share a link to a video hosted on another platform (usually YouTube) or upload your own video, which is referred to as a “native” video. Native video has a higher chance of showing up in people’s feeds due to Facebook’s algorithm prioritizing on-platform video first.
